A verification badge can tell you that an account passed a particular check. It does not tell you everything about the person behind it. Read the app’s own explanation of the badge, use its official verification flow, and keep the same personal boundaries you would use with an unverified match.
For a current example, Hinge’s Face Check help page, updated 20 October 2026, explicitly says its feature does not guarantee a user’s identity or safety. This is Hinge’s policy; it does not describe FilipinoAvo’s features or every app available in the Philippines.
Find out what was actually checked
Look inside the app or its official help center. A selfie comparison, an age check, and a document check answer different questions. Do not infer that a badge confirms someone’s relationship status, employment, intentions, or behavior.
Feature names and availability can change by service and location. Avoid treating a screenshot of a badge as proof of a live account. Our online dating safety guide explains broader habits that remain useful regardless of a profile label.
Keep verification inside the official service
If a match sends a link and says you must verify there before you can meet, stop and independently open the app you already use. Check its official help instructions. Do not follow a person’s payment or document-upload request just because they call it a safety step.
Never send a match your password, one-time code, identity document, or banking details to “confirm” you are real. You can decline a request without proving why it feels wrong. A respectful person can accept a slower conversation.
Use conversation as context, not a guarantee
A short live call can help you decide whether you want to continue, but a call cannot certify someone’s background or make a meeting risk-free. Ask whether a call is comfortable, keep personal documents out of view, and leave if the exchange becomes pressuring.
The first-video-date questions guide offers ordinary conversation prompts. Someone declining video may have practical or privacy reasons. You can decide you need a call before meeting without demanding that they override their own boundary.
Keep the first meeting independent
Choose a public place, arrange your own transport, and tell a trusted person the plan. Keep control of when you leave. Do not let a badge become a reason to accept a private pickup, lend money, or share an address earlier than you want.
You can also continue dating conversations without sharing a phone number until you are comfortable. If you suspect impersonation or pressure, use the service’s reporting tools and stop responding when needed.
Common questions
Does an unverified profile mean a scam? No. The absence of a badge alone cannot establish that. Consider the interaction and whether your boundaries are respected.
Can I rely on a verified person’s investment advice? A dating badge is not a financial credential. Keep romantic introductions separate from requests to move money or join an investment platform.
